Message from Mr. Secretary

Just like Herding Cats
Well, it is that time again! Lots going on. I am sure some of us have been to the Finger Lakes rally since reading this. Roy is still putting together the Black Diamond trip (you can hear more at the meeting on the 13th).

I can’t wait for the swap meet at Razee’s in October. Check out the events page for more info. http://www.oceanstatebmwriders.com/

I was hoping to add comments to last month’s writings about the Great Pacific Northwest Trip enjoyed by myself, Roy, Carl, Ken and sometimes Craig Cleasby. BUT, nobody wrote about it last month so I will have to critique next month. I understand that our esteemed VP, Carl contributed three pages of mostly falsehoods which he documents with his “journal”. When reading, remember who the author is of the journal. I am still enjoying the high of the trip in my mind and get to show some photos now and then for those that ask.

By the time you read this there might be a new addition in the garage! Took a Ducati out for a long ride the other day and might be the replacement for the MV Augusta as a track bike. Speaking of which, my son and I are headed to NJ at the end of the month for some more high speed adventure. Can’t wait.

 Roy’s Ramblings,

I  start this month's letter off an a sad note.  Fair Winds and Following Seas to Paul Bachorz.Paul passed Sept 2nd. You may remember him from the April meeting where he was the guest speaker. Paul was a Trustee for the BMWRA Club, and before that Paul did a monthly strip, touring tips for the BMW MOA magazine ON.  Paul was very active with the Vermont BMW Club. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Was reading my OTL and came across this article. Condensed for this article. In the August issue of Motorcycle Consumer News, is the tale of the lowly "camera mule" bike, the 2010 R 1200 GS used to schlep heavy gear during the bid test of the Yamaha FJR 1300, Kawasaki Concours 14, and the Honda VFR 1200 F. In a result I have not seen before, the ever-ready GS tow -wheeled pickup truck beat ass three super sport tourers in all categories, and it wasn't  even being tested. Think about that. Engine, transmission, suspension, HANDLING, ergonomics, and riding impression - all were sizably better on the GS. At the end of the test day, the editors and testers unanimously agreed if they were spending their own money on the expensive sport tourer, they'd all pick the 1200 GS. What a delightful surprise. Here's a quote from Scott Rousseau: "Its capacious saddlebags and generous windscreen are as tour - worthy as any Gold Wing or Electric Glide I've ever ridden. About the only thing it lacks is a trunk and stereo, and I can accessorize one and don't need the other." That was a quote and his learned opinion, so don't blame me. That's just honest-to-goodness reportage, the king we come to expect from MCN.www.mcnews.com
