President Message September 2010 |
Looking forward - not back!
Large yellow buses and youngsters gathered at the end of my street very early this week has shocked me into realizing the official end of summer is upon us. Whatever happened to summer this year? I began to think of my role as Prez and what I had done to deserve that honor since January. Looking up the word “Lead” in my Funk & Wagnall’s it said “to show the way, to guide, to direct”. Add “-ership” to the word and it is further defined as “(noun). the state or function of a leader”. Well, how am I doing? A little self-assessment looking back is in order.
I believe my first month in office I took a vacation for three weeks, half-way around the world and on the left coast. I remember getting an email while standing on a mountain pass in the Crown Range above Queenstown, NZ that said a motion to “impeach” me had been made and I somehow narrowly escaped that embarrassment. Carl was in charge at that monthly meeting. Carl was also in charge of Hawaiian Night and that was a tremendous success! He who owns the most Hawaiian shirts (or coconuts) WINS!
This summer many of our members travelled east to west and BACK to the BMWMOA and BMWRA rallies and points in between. I chose to get lost in West Virginia with my brother instead. Did you see the photo on our Event Page of Carl getting KISSED on both cheeks by two beautiful ladies who belong to our club? I do feel sorry for Carl that his R-bike caught on fire somewhere in Pennsylvania, but he’s HOT!
Feeling negligent, I signed Pam and me up for riding to the Black Diamond Beemer’s Rally in Lookout, PA on September 17-19 with OSBMWR attendees being 25 strong! What a turn-out! The “couples” and females attending will have the opportunity to bunk together in what I have dubbed the “Harem Cabin”, a term likely to get me in hot water with somebody. Thankfully, Carl and Tammy will be there, so we will have lots of laughs and maybe dancing?
Coming up, on Sunday, October 3, is one of the clubs premiere annual events, the Ralph Razee Memorial Ride. Since I am going to be in California (yes, again) for 3 weeks starting September 29, I have delegated the leadership role for this important club function to Carl. Oh yes, there may be a OSBMWR “swap meet/flea market” at Razee’s on the preceding Saturday which was, by the way Carl’s idea – darned good one too! You should definitely plan to attend these events, details to follow (from Carl).
In my defense, I have started a
discussion with Joanne and Julie on the plans for our Xmas Party and I haven’t
relinquished responsibility yet on that event, but I was thinking of asking Carl
for his help. Please come to our meeting on Monday, September 13 at Richard’s
Pub. I may need your vote again!
Mike
