President Message December 2011 |
“Only in Rhode Island”
How many times have you heard that statement made, or
have uttered those words yourself?
It usually is accompanied by a roll of the eyes and a look of acknowledgement
when some recent news item appears in Projo or a friend or acquaintance
offers some discouraging revelation regarding our state or its citizens! I
would like to offer that “only in Rhode Island” has relevance to our club, and
in a very positive way.
We, the members of the OSBMWR club associate, presumably because we share
common interests (motorcycling), enjoy doing things together (riding) and
generally enjoy each other’s company. The benefits of belonging and contributing
to a club are BETTER in Little Rhody partly because we are already a “tight
knit” fabric courtesy of our little City/State. Common friends, (Yeah, I
know Bobby – we went to school together in Cranston.) common experiences,
(Remember the Flume at Rocky Point?) Or, ( How about those great hoagies at
Vinnie’s or the clam cakes at George’s in Galilee?) and often common values
provide a great environment for a great club.
Make no mistake, we do have a GREAT club! The difference between a good club
and a great club is wide-spread participation. We are also very fortunate to
have a passionate group of core individuals who make things happen for all of
us. Is there a better Beemer club website & monthly e-letter (Rumble)
anywhere in the USA than here in RI? What club stuff do you need that you can’t
get at our club store? Do other clubs ride to eat or eat to Ride more often
than we do? Do they ride to more interesting places or events than we do? What
club can compare with the fun we have with the annual Faux Pas Award? Where can
you poke good natured fun or swap lies more often than at a Tuesday breakfast?
We are the shepherds of this good fortune and must nurture and protect such a
special experience.
It has been my great privilege to have served the past two years as your
President. I hope you feel I contributed in a positive way. I have every
intention of continuing to do that in other roles within our club. Thank you
for the opportunity, it has been very rewarding. A special Thank You to,
Carl Saccoccio, Jimmy Carter, Bill Kenney, Tom Gill, Ken Richmond, JoAnne
Parillo and all our Directors just to drop some familiar names!
Hope to see you at our Christmas (or is that Holiday?) Party, Friday December 9
at the Quonset “O” Club. Please attend our next monthly meeting on Monday,
December 12, 7pm to help elect your next President and Treasurer. Currently, we
have Ken Richmond (aka Soleman) nominated for President and Tracy Karasinski and
Tom Gill, (incumbent) in the running for Treasurer. A wonderful slate of
candidates to choose from. Let’s keep it going here in the Ocean State!
Mike
